The Purple Plexi can replicate JTM45 sounds at lower gain settings. But at higher gain settings, you can really get that sound and feel of a JCM800 with all of the knobs on 10. You can even control the gain by rolling back the volume knob on your guitar. Here's a rundown of the controls:
• DRIVE: This is the input gain of the Purple Plexi. At low settings, you can get warm, dirty "cleans" or nice crunch sounds. At higher settings this thing is totally gonzo. Be careful with this pedal on high gain. You might end up starting a Guns N Roses cover band.
• TONE: This is a low-pass filter TONE knob. As you turn it counter-clockwise, high frequencies are rolled off. If you turn the DRIVE and TONE knobs down you can even get "woman" tones out of this pedal. Very cool!
• LEVEL: This is the output volume of the pedal. Once you have the DRIVE set where you like it, you can set this knob to unity gain with your dry signal. Or you can crank the LEVEL and drive your tubes crazy.
• BOOST: This is a simple volume knob for the boost circuit. Turn it clockwise to make your guitar louder. You can also use it to push your tube amp to overdrive.
This Purple Plexi is in good cosmetic condition. The electronics work perfectly. The pots, jacks and switches are all clean and quiet. You can power this pedal with a 9-volt battery, a 1Spot or Boss PSA-style AC/DC adapter, or your standard 9-volt pedalboard power supply.
