Our cows are purchased when they are young from another farmer down the road. We bring them to our secondary farm where they graze happily in a field of wild grass and with lots of sunshine. They do have a cozy barn for shelter, but will often be found outside enjoying the rain and snow-go figure! On the coldest of days we don't give them a choice though, we make them get into the barn!
Once they achieve a more mature stature and hefty weight we bring them to the home farm where they are fattened up before they are off to the butcher.
They seem to be 'happy cows' as they are rarely mooing, they will lick the farmers pants as he feeds them, trying to tip the pail or wheelbarrow sooner!
